York Dungeon

Visit York Dungeon and be propelled back to a dark and fearsome time in the Roman city of York. Here you will witness interactive shows, live actors and special effects ensuring that your experience is as realistic as possible. Everything at the York Dungeon is based on real-life events from the Labyrinth of the Lost Roman Legion. Here you will hear stories of Dick Turpin and experience the torture and plague problems that beset these grizzly times. The only question is, can you handle it?

From 2008 visitors will be able to experience a new attraction at York Dungeon, namely Dick Turpin: Highwayman From Hell. In this fascinating attraction you will see the cell that Dick Turpin is incarcerated in for crimes such as murder, torture and theft. It was here that he was placed on 'death row' as he awaited execution on the gallows. You will travel down to his cell in the pitch black where you will discover a murdered guard and a killer wishing to exact revenge in blood, will it be you he decides to target?

JORVIK

At JORVIK you can explore the fascinating world of Vikings and take a trip down Viking streets just as they would have been back in AD975. The attraction is very popular and has had more than 14 million visitors in the 21 years it has been opened.

Travelling down the Viking streets will intrigue you as you experience the sights, sounds and smells just as they would have been at the time. This is exactly where archeologists found the original city remains. There are displays teaching you about Viking life and you can even have the scary job of going face to face with a VIking if you so wish!

All the information and attractions at the JORVIK centre are based upon real archaeological evidence which was all discovered between 1979-81 as excavation work was carried out by the York Archaeological Trust.
