The Jane Austen Centre

Visiting the Jane Austen centre will see you transported back to Regency times and look at how living in the city affected Jane Austen and the influence it had on her both her life and her writing.

At the centre you will find a themed tea room that serves real leaf tea. Proper home made cakes and snacks also provide you with a traditional experience. If you are planning to visit in 2009 then you will be able to enjoy a brand new addition 'Romance and Reality.' This new exhibition is to be designed by Andrea Galer - BAFTA and EMMY award winner - and will focus on how the costumes were made for the BBC film 'Miss Austen Regrets.'

The British Empire & Commonwealth Museum

The first museum in the U.K. to present the 500-year history of the overseas British Empire awaits you at the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum. It was opened in 2002 and is within the Isambard Kingdom Brunel 19th century railway station that can be found at Temple Meads in Bristol.

The reason Bristol was chosen for the location of the museum is due to the connections the area has in history which was made through trade, piracy, shipbuilding, railways and exploration. Inside the museum you will find sixteen galleries that are there on a permanent basis, as well as a commercial archive including documents, objects, photographs and sound recordings.
