The Medievil Tannery is the only example of its kind in the country and dates back to 1250AD. The process of making armoury and clothing was very profitable, and here you experience the sights and smells and truly experience what it was like to work in these conditions.
The Slums of Drury Hill is another attraction that will transport you back in time. In Medievil Nottingham Drury Hill was a wealthy and prosperous environment, however by the 19th century the area has degenerated into a slum. This exhibition shows a basement where entire families used to live together creating terrible problems with illness and hygiene. You can now see first hand what this must have been like.
A trip forward in time now takes you to the Second World War when the caves played an integral part in helping Nottinghams residents escape the might of the Luftwaffe. In 1941, 86 of these caves were opened for use as air raid shelters and their sandstone walls made an ideal source to fulfill the nations need for sand for sandbags.
